Our Mission

The OHBA (Ohio Home Builders Association) is a 5,200-plus member trade association representing home builders and their associate vendors in a legislative and regulatory advocacy capacity on a statewide basis.

OHBA serves its membership by promoting proactive involvement on state issues and legislation impacting the residential building industry, wetlands, affordable housing, workers compensation, etc.

OHBA will continue to serve its members as the voice of the building industry on a state level.

Message from the President

To All Board Trustees, Local Association Presidents,
Executive Officers, and Past Presidents of OHBA:

There are positive signs that the long housing decline has subsided and we are poised for an upward trend.  When the inevitable recovery comes we will be ready.  We did an excellent job maintaining our businesses and our association on the downside.  Now is the time to turn our attention to growth.

It is OHBA, and no other, that is charged with ensuring that state government regulates the housing industry in a way that makes sense, does not impede its growth, or unnecessarily increase its costs so to best serve the needs of the housing consumer.

This is our mission on which we are singularly focused.

In pursuit of our mission, we are extremely successful.  Among our many accomplishments are creating a state-wide building code, revising the condominium law and participating in the creation of uniform septic regulations.  All our Members know and enjoy the benefits of our success in their operations.  None of us individually can influence state government in such a meaningful way.  If it has to do with state regulation of residential construction, land use and development, your Ohio Home Builders Association makes sure your interests are heard and protected.

Although we have accomplished much together, there is much to do.  Not the least of which is to push back against the growing federal influence over our building codes.  This represents a new front in the fight to keep housing affordable for the greatest number of Ohioans.

To remain successful and meet the greater challenges which lie ahead, we must step up our individual effort and provide more resources to our organization to make it stronger.  We all need to work to grow our membership and strengthen Build Pac. There are many in our industry that enjoy the benefits of our efforts but without sharing the costs. We need to tell them our story and gain their support of OHBA by becoming a member. I challenge each of you to recruit just one new member this year and secure a contribution to Build-PAC.

Remember, silence is consent.  We must challenge unwarranted regulation.  Learn our issues and let your senators, representatives and governor know where we stand.  Home building means jobs.  No elected official can ignore that message today.

The OHBA story is one of success.  Staffed by the best group of professionals in their field and assisted by dedicated volunteers, our organization will continue to serve and benefit builders, associates and housing consumers in the state of Ohio.

I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year as together we grow and strengthen our association.

Sincerely,

Bill Martin
2012 OHBA President
